Arcos da Lapa


The Carioca Aqueduct — Arcos da Lapa — is the colonial arcade that now carries the Santa Teresa tram.

Built in the middle of the eighteenth century to bring Carioca River water into the city, the arcade is still the orientation point of the neighborhood. From the late nineteenth century the same arches have carried the tram between Centro and Santa Teresa.

Stand in Largo da Lapa at evening for the view; the Circo Voador tent sits at the foot of the same structure.

The aqueduct is the short walk that orients the whole stay — walk toward the arcade from the studio.
