Beco das Garrafas
Beco das Garrafas is a dead-end alley off Rua Duvivier in Copacabana that, through the 1950s and 60s, held a cluster of nightclubs and bars where bossa nova took shape.
Jam sessions and debut sets inside these clubs became part of the historical narrative of bossa nova's emergence and Rio's musical memory. Musicians who played here include Sergio Mendes, Baden Powell, Durval Ferreira, Dom Um Romão, and Airto Moreira, alongside singers Elis Regina, Sylvia Telles, and Leny Andrade, among others.
The alley gained wider notoriety after writer Ruy Castro featured it in his 1990 book Chega de Saudade, a chapter of the story later revisited by Nelson Motta in Noites Tropicais.
