Carioca / Centro
Carioca / Centro is the busiest station on the Rio de Janeiro Metro, serving downtown from Largo da Carioca since it opened in July 1981.
More than 80,000 passengers pass through daily across its three entrances. Renamed from simply "Carioca" in August 2022, the station was built on two levels meant to serve both Line 1 and Line 2, but the planned connection was never completed and the lower platform remains unused.
