Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar
The Sugarloaf cable car has linked Praia Vermelha to Morro da Urca and the peak of Pão de Açúcar since its first stretch opened on October 27, 1912.
Engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos conceived the project, and the cars still carry his design's name — bondinho, for their resemblance to the trams that once ran through Rio. The privately run cable car has carried around 37 million passengers since opening, with roughly 2,500 riders a day today.
