Parque Glória Maria
Parque Glória Maria, once known as Parque das Ruínas, is a Santa Teresa park and gallery built around the ruins of a Belle Époque mansion, renamed in 2023 for the Brazilian journalist and TV host.
The site once belonged to socialite and arts patron Laurinda Santos Lobo, who hosted intellectuals and artists here in the early twentieth century. Abandoned for forty years, it was bought by the state in 1993 and rebuilt in 1997 by architects Ernani Freire and Sonia Lopes, who kept the ruined structure and added a contemporary layer around it. A Kobra mural of Glória Maria now marks the renaming.
The park looks out over Guanabara Bay on one side and downtown Rio on the other, next door to the Museu da Chácara do Céu.
