Teatro Municipal Carlos Gomes
Teatro Carlos Gomes on Praça Tiradentes is one of Brazil's most traditional theaters, with roots reaching back to 1868.
Its first stage opened in 1872 as the Theater Franc-Brésilienne, later renamed Theater Santana before taking its current name in honor of composer Antônio Carlos Gomes. Three fires have devastated the building over its history.
Today it seats 760 people beneath three Art Deco foyers finished in marble flooring and staircases, with ten dressing rooms spread across four floors.
