Teatro João Caetano
Teatro João Caetano on Praça Tiradentes is popularly known as the city's oldest playhouse, tracing back to the original Theatro São João, inaugurated in 1813.
That first building later burned down; its replacement, the Theatro São Pedro de Alcântara, was demolished in 1928, and the current building dates to 1930. It seats 1,139 people across the main floor, noble balcony, and simple balcony, and takes its name from the actor and playwright João Caetano.
